Makakatana Bay Lodge is set on the banks of Lake St Lucia within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage Site, one of the few natural wonders left on earth. Our goal is to show off this unique and pristine wilderness gem, the perfect addition to a typical safari holiday.
The lodge is a privately-owned and managed game lodge within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Guests can experience this magnificent area from the comfort of our spacious rooms, set on raised decks within the wilderness of the game park.
The area is home to vibrant wildlife in the game reserve, within Lake St. Lucia’s estuary and the glorious coastal beaches on the eastern shores of the park. The five standard rooms are bright and spacious, integrating comfort and luxury with the natural environment. Set in the dune forest, the grounds surrounding the luxury suites are frequented by warthog, red duiker, nyala, bush babies, and a variety of bird life. With 2 family suites, it is the perfect place for families to make this watery wilderness their playground.
A variety of exciting activities showcase this area’s diversity and uniqueness. Full day excursions allow for our guests to immerse themselves fully into the iSimangaliso, with boat safaris and Indian ocean beach experiences.
Makakatana Bay Lodge work closely with a variety of conservation organisations in the area. When guests stay at Makakatana Bay Lodge, they pay conservation levies which contribute to the following projects:
AFRICAN WILDLIFE VETS Makakatana Bay Lodge supports African Wildlife Vets which is a non-profit organisation in Zululand. We would encourage you to read the document attached to find out more about what they do to support these dedicated wildlife veterinarians who desperately need support.
EZEMVELO WILDLIFE – ANTI POACHING UNIT Fighting poachers is not for the faint-hearted. Perhaps the bravest are those in anti-poaching teams who encounter danger on a daily basis. A portion of the funds raised through our levy goes towards purchasing equipment like binoculars, trap cameras and drones for the anti-poaching units.
DESTINY HOUSE MINISTRIES We also support Destiny House Children’s Ministries in Mtubatuba, which exists to empower and enable children to fulfil their God-given destiny. They provide a loving home for 24 orphaned and abandoned children and provide an Early Childhood Development Programme to the wider community.
